Vandals went on what can easily be described as a rampage with damage inflicted on cars, mailboxes, and homes through a wide swath of town.
According to a reader submission to the Journal, “This past Saturday night many houses (est. 50 or more) were subject to vandalism in Oakland. There were mailboxes bashed, lights pulled out of the ground, side view mirrors ripped off of a car, etc. The majority of the area that was hit was encompassed the “college” streets, Hiawatha and areas around. According to a person I work with the vandalism was the act of a roving bunch of “kids,” and went on from about Midnight to 2 am. Oakland residents need to know what is going on so that we can all help keep Oakland safe.”
The vandalism was obvious to early morning walkers, joggers, and drivers, and days later the damage is still evident. Residents are encouraged to report any incidences to the Oakland Police at 201-337-6171.
If damage was done to a mailbox, residents should also report that online at https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/mlntrcvd.aspx or print and fill out USPS form 2016.
Having spent spent some time as a “youth”, it was probably neighborhood kids running around after drinking. Local parents on those streets should ask there kids if they have an alibi for that time period.
