This Saturday is Oakland Recreation’s annual baseball/softball parade. Every year the event gets bigger and bigger and this year is no different. Along with the team banners, hot dogs, bouncy rides and music there will be a very special award handed out by the Recreation Commission. Former Oakland Recreation Commissioner and Coach Vince Letizia will be honored for a Lifetime of Achievement. Vince was a long-time fixture at the recreation complex, immersing himself into every aspect of Recreation. “Everyone knows Vince” said Recreation Commission Chairman Mike Guadagnino. “For a period of time, he was Oakland Recreation. This is a long overdue tribute, and I am grateful and honored to be a part of the Commission that is giving Vince this award”.
Mike spoke about how Vince was instrumental in having the roller rink built, rebuilding field 5 about ten years ago and expanding the travel baseball program. “I could go on and on about all the initiatives that Vince begun, but I am sure I would leave some out”.
Recreation Commission Vice-Chair, Dan Logatto added “Vince was our predecessor, he laid a great foundation. There’s no way Oakland Recreation could have evolved into the great program that it has become without the guidance and foresight that Vince provided!”
The parade kick-offs at 9:00 with the ceremony to follow on field 7. It should be a great day for Oakland Recreation!
