Valley Middle School PTO – Oakland, NJ would like to thank MACY’s Preakness, Wayne, NJ for extending an invitation for us to participate in the annual Shop for a Cause event that took place on October 16th.  For those of you who are not familiar with Shop for a Cause, it is a day that Macy’s permits non- profit organizations to sell 20% off Macy coupons to consumers for $5. The participating non-profit organizations keep 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the coupons.
This year Macy’s invited the VMS-PTO to apply for a $3000 grant.  We were awarded the grant on Saturday, October 16th at the Macy’s Shop for a Cause.  This grant was offered by the Macy’s Corporation to help support all aspect of classroom productivity affected by school budget cuts.
VMS-PTO fundraisers raise money to facilitate extra-curricular activities for the students and also provide the school with an annual gift.  Previous gifts have included smart boards and refurbishing of the science lab.  We would like to personally thank the Macy’s for their generous donation – especially this year as we have found it particularly challenging due to the difficult economic climate and the Oakland School District’s loss of $1 million in State Aid.
Please join us in patronizing Macy’s this holiday season in effort to thank them for taking care of their community.  Submitted by Gina M. Steele, Vice President/Fundraising VMS-PTO
