Oakland has its Finest, Oakland has its Bravest, and Oakland has its Best – The Best being the Oakland DPW.
Year after year, the Oakland DPW clearly proves itself one of the best in New Jersey’s largest county.
Through the years when snowstorms can come like waves pounding on Oakland; through the devastation that brought havoc, destruction and tragedy in the wake of Hurricane Irene; and, through the freakish storms that left parts of Oakland powerless and littered with down trees – Oakland’s Best never flagged nor failed.
Year after year, they work as part of the Oakland community, helping each commission and committee in Oakland fulfill their mission, helping multiple charities in their public fundraising campaigns, and being the silent force that lays the groundwork for others to succeed, so others can also work to make Oakland better.
Those who repeatedly lay the groundwork for others broke ground today for a new DPW building.
The entire Oakland town council joined Mayor Schwager, DPW liaison Sandra Coira, borough administrators, office workers, and many of Oakland’s Best from DPW to hold a ceremonial groundbreaking on the work that is to begin on the new building.
Mayor Schwager spoke of the DPW’s reputation as one the best departments in the region, spoke of her deep appreciation for their work, and the importance of the new building to assure that DPW workers are able to work in safe conditions.
Anthony Marcucilli, head of DPW, thanked the mayor for her kind words, and thanked the assembled DPW workers for the effort they put in which have earned them the title of Oakland’s Best.
