Oakland, along with the rest of norther New Jersey, weathered a powerful rainstorm with high winds. Many areas of the county experienced flooded streets, yards, and basements as the howling winds brought down trees and power lines. It was warmer, but shovels were replaced with buckets as people bailed out houses impacted by the melting snow and heavy rainfall.
Martin Treich of Oakland captured some of the damage, and all of the power, nature brought down in photographs from around town. The video slide show below offers Martin’s still images, and a short video clip of the Pompton Dam under it. Jim Folkerts, also of Oakland, provided video footage of the river over near Truman Blvd and Roosevelt Ave.
Power was out last night along the Route 4 and 208 corridor which was affecting Wyckoff, Franklin Lakes,Oakland. It is estimated that over 80,000 houses in Bergen County still had no power as of Sunday morning.
