Armed Robbery in Oakland

On Tuesday, May 6th 2008, Michael Van Dusen of The Bergen Record published an online report concerning an armed robbery on Doty Road in Oakland. Entering an unlocked door, the masked gumen asked for money and fled in the vicinity of West Oakland Avenue.

The report in The Bergen Record has described the men as wearing dark clothing, speaking Spanish, and driving a dark colored SUV; the crime occurred around 1:30am, Monday morning. Police believe the family may have been targeted.

The residents of Oakland share with the police department credit in keeping Oakland a safe town. Community involvement is essential in fighting crime, and The Oakland Journal reminds it’s readers that we all have a stake in being conscious of our surroundings, our neighborhoods, and report any suspicious activity.

Although it can offer little comfort for the victimized family, Oakland’s crime rate has remained relatively unchanged over the years. Fluctuations can be seen in data available at citydata.com for the years 1999-to-2006, but the majority of reported crimes have gone down.
