A Distinguished Speaker Series featuring

Dr. Diane M. Sharon

On Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 10:00 AM, Temple Beth Rishon will be hosting, “A Distinguished Speaker Series” featuring Dr. Diane Sharon.

Dr. Sharon is a member of the faculty in Bible at the Academy for Jewish Religion. She has taught at the Jewish Theological Seminary, Fordham University and other institutions of higher learning. She is also a faculty member at the Skirball Center for Adult Jewish Learning at Temple Emanuel in New York City. Dr. Sharon is the author of numerous articles and publications including Patterns of Destiny: Narrative Structures of Foundation and Doom in the Hebrew Bible.

She will be speaking on the topic, “The Book of Ruth: Biblical Sexuality and Contemporary Mores.”

Dr. Sharon will focus on:

“What are the ethical and moral issues at stake?”

“What is problematic for contemporary readers and what is acceptable?”

“What does this tell us about our biblical role models and their leadership qualities?”

The program will take place at Temple Beth Rishon, 585 Russell Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481. Breakfast will be served promptly at 10:00 am, followed by Dr. Sharon’s presentation.
