Vila Verde

VILA VERDE, Wayne, NJ

A recent visit with friends to Vila Verde in Wayne turned out to be a gem of an evening. Having a different ethnic restaurant in the area is a nice change. The menu was filled with so many interesting choices it was hard to decide.

Both hot and cold appetizers were served at the right temperature and there was plenty for sharing. The tender calamari and the sautéed chorizos were a big hit. All the dishes were layered with flavor, and seasoned to perfection.

Now doubt, the best of the nights entrees was the paella. Served both with seafood alone or with chicken and chorizos added in, the seafood was plentiful, the rice light and fluffy, and the spices enhanced the natural flavors in the food. We had two meals just from the leftovers the next night. I would also recommend the shrimp in wine sauce or the interestingly served bacon and shrimp wrapped skewers. Sides are served family style with more than enough for the whole table.

If you are watching your calories I recommend the vegetable soup in a light broth, with the Broiled Salmon or Surf and Turf. The salmon and lobster were cooked firm, but not dry. The filet mignon was almost tender enough to cut with a fork and seasoned to perfection.

Dessert was just the icing on the cake. If you can find the room, the flan is outstanding. There were at least 6 choices for international coffees, all fabulous. If you don’t have room for dessert, whatever you do, don’t skip the coffee.

Villa Verde in Wayne and the corner of Colfax and Terhune is a restaurant not to be missed. Take your friends, and they’ll make you all feel like family.
