On December 24, 2010 at approximately 1:43 a.m., Ptl. Keenan initiated a stop on a vehicle after observing that it failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Plaza and Post Roads. As the officer made contact with the driver, a 19 year old Ramsey , NJ resident, he noticed that his eyes appeared to be reddened. Through training, experience, and the use of roadside sobriety tests, Ptl. Keenan determined that the driver was under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance and subsequently placed him under arrest for driving under the influence. At headquarters, Ptl. Keenan conducted a drug recognition expert evaluation on the arrestee and determined that he was under the influence of suspected cannabis. He was later released on his own recognizance and given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.
On January 1, 2011 while attending to an unrelated incident on Sioux Ave , Ptl. Broek witnessed several individuals fleeing through the backyard carrying backpacks and cases of alcohol. One of the individuals, an 18 year old Oakland resident was apprehended at the intersection of Ramapo Valley Road and Navajo Way . He was found to be in possession of a backpack containing multiple bottles of alcohol, and was later transported to headquarters for processing. Four other underage individuals were also located in the area and found to be in possession of additional bottles of alcohol. Criminal charges were lodged for the underage possession of alcohol and borough ordinance violations were issued for similar offenses. All individuals were released on their own recognizance and given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.
