Larry Lachance Oakland History

Larry Lachance, a former resident of Oakland, still has a great affection for his former home town. You can visit his website at Lachance.org and learn a lot about Oakland’s history. Although they left Oakland in 1963, he has done an outstanding job in collecting an array of old postcards and photographs. He includes photos of their original house purchased for $13, 000 dollars, and recent photos of the same house at over $400,000.

Larry has four pages of material packed with information about Oakland, and it’s well worth a visit to his website. The photo shown here is from The Oakland Elementary School, March 1961, Mrs. White’s Room.

Follow-up email from Larry:

Thanks very much, I am humbled by your kind words and elated by your inclusion of the website in the paper. Yes, I do have some fond memories, many of which came back as I was writing the pages about Oakland. Maybe somebody in town will read it and come up with photo of Nash’s diner as it was in the early 60’ … that is of course … if I am really really lucky (smile). Oakland was a great place to live then, as I’m sure it is today. I’d retire there, if I thought I could afford it.

I was aware of the Bergen Record, but was not aware of the Oakland Journal. I will add a link to your page as well…if it’s ok with you.
Thanks again, being singled out is an honor.

-Larry

If anyone has photos of Nash’s diner, please contact him through his website or via The Oakland Journal.
