FLOW Green Fair – March 7th 1

FIRST ANNUAL FLOW GREEN FAIR
SATURDAY, MARCH 7, 2015, 11:00 AM TO 4:00 PM

The Environmental Commissions of Franklin Lakes, Oakland and Wyckoff are delighted to announce the “First Annual FLOW Green Fair” being held on Saturday, March 7, 2015, in the Ramapo High School Cafeteria from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  Admission is free.

Green Fairs are an important part of the Sustainable Jersey program. They introduce sustainability to all members of the community, help educate them about the difference that conscious efforts in conservation and recycling can make and provide them with tools that they can take home and use.

The FLOW Green Fair has an impressive list of exhibitors, all of whom have exciting activities to demonstrate the benefits of sustainability. The Audubon Society’s Lorrimer Sanctuary, the Hackensack Riverkeeper and the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference will show you the wonders of our local environment and Pedal Sports will show you how to get around them. Princeton Hydro will demonstrate how to stop algae forming in your ponds and water features, using a floating wetland rather than expensive chemicals. Becton Dickinson will talk about their recent conversion from electricity to gas to save power.  The Shade Tree Commissions from the three towns will be there.

Beekeeper Frank Mortimer, from the Northeast Beekeepers Association, will illustrate the many ways bees help the environment and compost expert, Brian Scanlan, will show how to enrich your garden soil for free. Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Bergen County will help you understand the value of rain water gardens.
When you’ve listened to these experts you can plant some vegetables for the spring with Stacey Antine of the Healthbarn. If you don’t want to plant vegetables, you can watch the live tap dancers or relax with Meditation and Reflexology demonstrated by the Wyckoff YMCA. There will be lots of healthy food ideas from Ramsey Farm Market, Whole Foods, Nicholas Markets Foodtown, Ben and Jerry’s, Super Juice Nation and Kara’s Cakes.

The Environmental Commissions of Franklin Lakes, Oakland and Wyckoff will be at the Fair to discuss, among other things, prescription drug disposal and recycling as an important tool for sustainability. Stop & Shop, the local High School Environmental Clubs and the Franklin Lakes Recycling Coordinator will show you why recycling is important and what you can and can’t recycle.

Other local organizations who will be featured at the fair include Ramapo College, Oakland Garden Club, Mahwah Environmental Volunteer Organization and our star attraction will be animals from the RBARI animal shelter.

All it needs now is YOU! Come for an hour or come for the day and enjoy sustainability. For further information contact Carole Holden, Event Chair cwholden@verizon.net.

A further good thing about the Green Fair being at Ramapo High School on March 7th is that people might be reminded that the FLOW Follies will be performing “Happily Ever After or Go with the FLOW” that same evening in the same building starting around 7:30 PM. This will also be performed on Sunday at 2 PM. The high school parents always do a great job.
