Help During Power Outages @ the Library

libraryMany Oakland residents continue without power.  If you know anyone in this unfortunate situation please share some ways the library might be helpful during this time.

  • People are welcome to charge their cell phones, laptops or other personal electronics.  We put in extra power strips downstairs to make it easier.
  • We have WiFi upstairs and downstairs.  It can even be accessed from the parking lot when the library is not open!
  • We have regular PCs, both in adult and in children’s
  • … and we have daily newspapers, current magazines, and movies (for all those charged up laptops)
  • also for laptops, iPhones, MP3 players etc. – free downloadable audio books and free ebooks.  See www.bccls.org.  Pierre in the reference department is glad to help get you going!  201-337-3742 x211
For children during the power outage (except Wednesday, 8/31, when we have special Kindergarten Kickoff programs scheduled all day)
  • Drop in crafts – parents or grandparents can drop in any time the library is open – to a nice cool place – and do a craft.   Miss Debbie and Miss Andrea have easy crafts set up and ready to go in the Pat Turnier Craft Room.
  • Movies – Come and watch a movie in the story tower.  We have hundreds to choose from!  Library staff will get it going for you.
The Borough may also be using the library as a distribution point for information – we’ll have more on that tomorrow.  And please give us a call if you have a suggestion for other ways the library can help during this time.
