8th Grade Project Update 1

Through the generosity of many people, John Meyer was able to raise over $1,000 for the North Jersey Media Group Foundation. This money will be used to help families in need across Northern New Jersey.

Coupled with that, my father’s marathon was a success too. He ran the NJ Marathon in Long Branch on May 3rd and finished in 198th place out of 1778 runners. Even with the rainy conditions, Dad/Bob finished with a personal best time of 3 hours 27 minutes and that was fast enough to qualify him for the 2010 Boston Marathon.

We want to thank everyone for their generous donations and for cheering on Bob.

The Journal is supporting the efforts of John Meyer in his community service project. Below, Oakland readers can learn about the project and participate.
Help Neighbors In Need Hello, my name is John Meyer and I am an 8th grade student at Valley Middle School in Oakland, NJ. For my 8th grade service project I’m raising funds to help our neighbors in need through the North Jersey Media Group Foundation and I’m asking for your support.

You might know the Foundation from its its annual food drive held in October called the Action Against Hunger but it actually does much more. The Foundation collects donations year-round to assist North Jersey families by providing funds for food, clothing and shelter, help with medical needs, and support literacy and educational programs. In the past, funds have been distributed to local organizations including Eva’s Kitchen, Gilda’s Club, Hackensack University Medical Center, and Camp Sunshine. The Foundation’s efforts are made possible by the generosity of people like you.

To raise money for the Foundation, I’ve enlisted the help of my Dad. My Dad, Bob Meyer, is an avid runner, who will be running the 26.2 Mile New Jersey Marathon on May 3, 2009 and I’ve asked him to run it in support of the Foundation. Here’s how it works – I am asking you to cheer on my father and to make a donation for each mile he runs.

You can donate a dollar per mile ($26), $.50 per mile ($13), $.25 per mile $7.50) or any flat amount. Donations can be made on-line through this secure website: www.firstgiving.com/runforfood or by check (Payable to North Jersey Media Group Foundation) and mailed no later than May 2, 2009 to me at 136 Iroquois Ave, Oakland, NJ 07436. 100% of your donations will go to the Foundation. So please, cheer on my dad and help support your neighbors with a donation.

Thanks, John

I wish for the best with John’s effort. I know him from my school and I think John has a great charity to help out and fund raise for. As a columnist, I encourage all to please donate to this cause. Good Luck John!
