Krishna Chavda, an illustrator from Oakland, New Jersey, has been selected to compete against nine other textile designers in REPEAT: A Fabric Design Competition hosted by The Printed Bolt.
REPEAT features 10 amazing designers from around the United States who will compete in monthly design challenges from March to August to determine the winner. The competition is presented online at theprintedbolt.com for readers to follow and vote for their favorite designer. Readers will also be able to purchase each designers fabric through Spoonflower, an on-line print on demand fabric company. A rotating panel of fabulous guest judges will also add their input each month.
Krishna is an observer and recorder of people, places, and things. Her illustrations are snapshots capturing everything from wildlife in Tanzania, to street vendors in India, to the architecture in Spain. With loose, but deliberate and detailed line drawing and watercolors, she depicts what she sees around her during her adventures across the globe. While many of these drawings turn into complete reportage illustrations, they are also the basis of her surface designs. The designs integrate well into quilting and home decor markets because of their whimsical and fresh aesthetic.
Krishna received a BA degree in Fine Arts at Drew University, and an MFA in illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design, where she concentrated in surface design. In her free time she enjoys bookmaking, playing Ultimate Frisbee and squash, and discovering new music.
