11% PARCC Refusal rate and counting in Oakland 3rd-8th Grades

noparccingAccording to the Board of Education the number of 3rd-8th grade parents refusing to allow their children to take the PARCC assessments has grown to over 100 students, which approximately 11%. They have been receiving new refusals every day and the number could grow.

The Oakland Board of Education sent home a letter to all parents of students in grades 3-8 on February 7th informing them that children with parents refusing participation would be placed in an alternate setting (e.g. library) with a substitute teacher, where they could read. The school Principal must have written notice of any refusals and children could not refuse without parental consent.
