Barnstable Academy Teachers Learn to “Capture Kids’ Hearts” in Preparation for New School Year
Educators participate in workshops to grow trust, respect and classroom culture to further students’ learning
Oakland, NJ, Sept. 5, 2012—This school year, teachers and staff at Barnstable Academy, a private school in Oakland, will seek to capture not only the minds of their students, but also their hearts. Educators recently participated in professional development training, as part of the Capturing Kids’ Hearts program (started by the Flippen Education Group), on how to establish trust and respect in an effort to create a positive classroom culture from day-one of the new school year.
At the Capturing Kids’ Hearts seminars, Barnstable teachers participated in breakout sessions and role-playing scenarios to learn specific tactics to bond with each student and identify their specific needs, personalities, communication and learning styles. The sessions taught teachers to “capture their students’ hearts” from the first week of school, and inevitably the students’ minds will follow, thus allowing classroom learning to come more comfortably and naturally for both students and teachers.
“At Barnstable Academy our primary focus is our students’ well-being and success in the classroom,” said Barnstable Academy Executive Director Lizanne Coyne. “By engaging in these lessons, teachers were taught to enable free and active student participation while learning to be more enthusiastic and trustworthy partners with our students, which is critical to the students’ comfort level and achievement in the classroom.”
Barnstable Academy opens its doors for the 2012/2013 school year on Thursday, Sept. 6. For more information about the school visit www.barnstableacademy.com or call 201-651-0200.
