Oakland Community of Commerce “Fever Pitch’ Event
By Peter Kikot – Chairman of the Oakland Community of Commerce
The annual baseball and softball parade, which is held each spring at the Alexander Potash Recreation Complex, was held this past Saturday June 7, 2014. In a unique partnership with Oakland recreation and the Oakland Public Events Committee the Oakland Community of Commerce held its second annual “Fever Pitch” Event in Oakland, NJ. The event drew hundreds of ‘Oaklanders’ including over 300 children who participate in the Oakland recreation Baseball and Softball programs. “We live in a special era where all groups, committees and commissions work seamlessly together, and those two groups (Oakland Community of Commerce and Oakland Public Events) came to Recreation and asked ‘how can we help?’. This year’s parade had music, healthy snacks, a photo booth and raffles, thanks to those two groups.” Detailed Oakland Recreation Chairman Michael Guadagnino.
“This event was a great way for the members of our business community to interact with Oakland residents and to show them that the business community is just as concerned with the small town atmosphere that Oakland provides. It was also a great event for the children.” Noted Chairman Peter Kikot. “We were so happy to see the smiles on the faces of the raffle winners and the laughs from all of the children as they enjoyed the many rides, photo booth and all the fresh food and drinks provide by the OPEC. A great big thank you to all of our O C of C raffle giveaway sponsors: Franks Pizza, Confident Cuts, The Hunter Group, Biosphere Landscape Architecture, Rainbow Essence and Columbia Bank. .” added Kikot. “The raffle added a little bit of excitement to an already exceptional event.”
The group also distributed free reusable Shop Rite shopping bags which they purchased directly and filled with all sorts of coupons and other goodies from members of their
community group. “Their promotion of reusable bags is in line with our mutual commitment to the environment and sustainability here in Oakland.” Noted Michael Kozak, Oakland Environmental Commissioner and Oakland Public Events member.
