The Oakland Historical Society created a facebook page to raise awareness and funds. They “are excited to have a page to interact with current and former residents! Looking forward to working together to preserve the history of Oakland.” Click on the like button to keep informed on the Van Allen House and the Stream House and to see how you can become involved.
Thanks for letting people know there is a page on facebook! I think with so many former residents having conversations about the great town we grew up in, it was appropriate to create a page that raises awareness of our history, and a desire to preserve it. This can bring us a little closer to the issues at hand and by creating awareness in this way, we hope to spark interest to move ahead in preservation.
On behalf of all former residents – and current ones too!

Thanks for the article. It’s wonderful to be able to keep up with Oakland’s doing while living in southern Louisiana.
OHS – Make sure this referendum is legal and not just a political ploy. Check out this article on the site Oakland Victory. Here is the link: http://oaklandvictory.com/the-latest/oaklands-veil-of-secrecy-did-they-break-any-laws/
If I were you I would make sure this was passed along to the proper authorities.
