On March 31, 2011 as a result of a motor vehicle crash on Seminole Avenue where a vehicle struck a utility pole, Ptl. Broek arrested a 60 year old Oakland resident and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was transported to a local hospital where a blood sample was obtained for later analysis by the N.J. State Police. Additional charges included reckless driving and failure to wear a seatbelt. An April 2011 court date has been scheduled in the Oakland Municipal Court. Sgt Sanzari and Ptl McDermott assisted in the investigation.
On April 2, 2011 Officers responded to a residence on Seminole Avenue after receiving a call from a resident who stated that there was a coyote in his basement. It was later determined that the homeowner was investigating a draft in his home and discovered that a coyote had broken through a window and was now resting in the corner of his basement. With the help of animal control officers, the officers were able to chase the coyote out a door leading to the garage without further incident. Lt. C. Eldridge, Ptl. F. Fiore and Ptl. R. O’Keefe responded.
