police_artOn July 31, 2010 Ptl. Bart Pagerie conducted a motor vehicle stop on Ramapo Valley Road after observing the vehicle disregard a red light. As the officer approached the car, he immediately detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver and the vehicle’s passenger compartment. After conducting some standardized field sobriety tests on scene, Ptl. Pagerie placed the 51 year old Ringwood , NJ resident under arrest for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Ptl. Noury, who was also on scene, located an open container of alcohol in the suspect’s vehicle. At headquarters the driver consented to providing samples of his breath for chemical testing. At the completion of the testing charges were filed against the driver for DWI, failing to stop for a red light, having an open container of alcohol in motor vehicle, failing to provide insurance documentation and failure to keep right. An August 2010 court date has been scheduled.

On August 6, 2010 as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Ramapo Valley Road for failure to keep right and operating a motor vehicle without operative taillights, Ptl. Catenacci arrested a 54 year old Wayne , NJ man for driving under the influence of alcohol. Standardized field sobriety tests were conducted on scene and the man was subsequently transported back to headquarters and administered the Alcotest. Charges included failure to keep right, maintenance of lamps, and DWI. An August 2010 court date has been scheduled in the Oakland Municipal Court.

On August 17, 2010 Ptl. Rowin was dispatched to a local business on Ramapo Valley Road to assist a Riverdale Police detective in serving an arrest warrant. After locating the suspect inside the establishment and informing him that he was being placed under arrest on the active warrant, the suspect asked the officers if he could retrieve some personal belongings on the second floor. As the officers followed the suspect up the stairs, he attempted to discard a capped hypodermic needle. The 30 year old Pompton lakes, NJ resident was charged with the possession of heroin and a hypodermic needle. Bail was set at $5000.00, no 10% by the Oakland Municipal Court. After being processed at headquarters, the subject was remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility on the original outstanding warrant.

On August 21, 2010 Sgt. Sanzari conducted a motor vehicle stop on Grove Street after observing the vehicle cross over the double yellow line in addition to being operated at excessive speeds. As the officer was approaching the stopped motor vehicle, he observed the female driver reach around the rear of the front passenger seat with a bottle of alcohol and attempt to conceal it under the passenger seat. The driver of the vehicle noticed the officer’s flashlight beam in the vehicle and she quickly dropped the bottle and placed her hands on the steering wheel, leaving the bottle partially protruding from under the seat. After gathering the driver’s credentials and determining that she was 18 years of age, the officer retrieved the bottle from the vehicle and placed the driver under arrest for the underage possession of alcohol. She was transported to headquarters for processing and later released on her own recognizance.
