Sun Sets on Oakland Carnival 2

It’s so noisy at the fair
But all your friends are there
And the candy floss you had
And your mother and your dad.

Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons,
You can’t be twenty on Sugar Mountain
Though you’re thinking that
You’re leaving there too soon,
You’re leaving there too soon.

Neil Young, Sugar Mountain

The sun has set on another successful carnival in Oakland. If you are under twenty, it might have left too soon even with the additional day added to make it a four day event; if you are over twenty, the carnival might have left just in time.

There is little doubt that Oakland regularly puts on a good show, and besides the excitement of the rides and games, it is the nonprofits that truly make the Oakland carnival a community event. The list of nonprofits serving up food and drinks continues to grow & expand, and ample opportunity existed to sample a wide variety.

Below are a few photos capturing the memories; if you would like to share any of your photos, please email editors@theoaklandjournal.com.

Thanks to the Oakland Public Events Committee, the Rotary and all the volunteers who made this happen. A lot of hands went into this and it was great!

Even though I haven’t lived in Oakland for 25 years, it will always be my home and I get to the fireworks almost every year! Thanks to all involved! Keep the tradition going! BTW.. My Nephew Freddie in the 4th picture down! 🙂
