West Bergen Participates in Advocacy Week Starting October 25th
On Monday, October 25, West Bergen Mental Healthcare will participate in Advocacy Week, a week long program of events promoting good mental health. West Bergen is a non-profit counseling and psychiatric center providing a wide range of services for individuals and families in need. In response to the recent tragedy affecting our community, West Bergen will concentrate its efforts – during the week – on the devastating affect of bullying.
“School bullying is widespread across the United States. Each day, an estimated 160,000 children refuse to go to school because they dread the physical and verbal aggression of their peers and the loneliness that comes from being excluded”, said Michael J. Tozzoli, MSW, West Bergen’s Chief Executive Officer.
West Bergen’s specially trained therapists will staff a Warm Line – (201) 444-3550 – every morning during the week of October 25 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Members of the community may call to discuss, in confidence, issues concerning bullying. Among them …What are the signs that my child is being bullied? What should I do if my child tells me he is being bullied? How do I prevent my child from being victimized by cyber bullying?
On Tuesday, October 26, at 11:30 AM, Danielle Heller, LCSW, Clinical Director of Child, Adult and Family Counseling at West Bergen, will present a workshop titled “Helping Parents Understand Cyber Bullying and Cyber Threats” at the Ridgewood Library, 125 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. The public is invited to attend this event, free of charge, and may RSVP by calling (201) 444-3550, ext. 7150. Resource material will also be available for parents to take home.
