For Cablevision subscribers who simply plug a coax cable into the back of their TV and fall asleep to CNN or Law & Order, or any of the other shows listed on the basic cable package, you are in for some sleepless nights.
Cablevision customers will soon need a cable box for each television. Customers with newer televisions might be able to utilize a cablecard, but there will be an additional monthly fee for each TV.
Currently, cable boxes are leased to customers for a $6.95 monthly fee. Cablevision is providing free cable boxes, and after one year customers will begin getting charged each month for each additional box.
A Cablevision representative confirmed that the boxes will be needed, and that the offer to get additional boxes ends on August 24th. (Other sources have mentioned August 7th)

You do have another option. I purchased an outdoor HDTV antenna for as little as $24.95. Connected it to my HDTV and I now receive many channels free.
