Christmas in July

The annual Christmas in July at Crystal Lakes Beach Club was wonderful!! With more than 200 people in attendance, a club record was set.

Grilled food was available on the beach for starters, Christmas music filled the air, The Christmas tree was trimmed by all and, of course, Santa was mobbed by the excited children as he exited his canoe and they anxiously waited for their gifts. The evening was concluded with a bonfire and plenty of marshmallows and other desserts. If you couldn’t make it this year, be sure to next. It was a memorable evening.

It is difficult to pinpoint when the idea for Christmas in July first originated. The term itself has been around for awhile, as the 1940 movie directed by Preston Sturges shows, and basically means a great benefit that comes unexpectedly. Actually celebrating a Christmas in July seems to have caught the public imagination in the 1980, and is often attributed to some Irish tourists in Australia who were pleasantly surprised to see snow and decided to have a Christmas party.

The idea caught on with the tourist businesses in Australia, and they began to promote these events which eventually caught on as a fun theme party for folks all around the world.
