Recently The Oakland Journal had the pleasure of meeting one of Oakland’s youngest talents, 8 year old, Matthew Dell’Amore. After showing us his work we thought it would be a great opportunity for the community, at large, to enjoy it as well. We asked Matthew a few questions:
When did you know you had a talent for drawing?
I knew I had a talent for drawing when I was four years old.
Do you paint as well as draw?
Yes, I paint as well as I draw.
Did any teacher influence your artistic ability?
Yes and no - I think I was born with this ability but Ms. Schwarz (my first grade teacher), Mrs. Osborne (my second grade teacher) and Mr. Bowe (my third grade teacher) all influenced me as well. (Dogwood Elementary Teachers)
Do any family members share your talent?
Yes, both my brothers - Christopher & Michael.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
When I grow up I want to be an artist.
Do you prefer drawing in color or black and white?
I prefer drawing in color.
Pokemon seems to be a recurring theme - what other things do you like to draw?
I also like to draw mother nature scenes as well as Webkins.
Have you taken any drawing classes outside of school?
I’ve taken Kids Arts classes and classes at Valley Middle School before summer camp last year
Is anything else you would like to tell the readers?
I would like to tell the readers that I am a fourth grader and I will be nine years old on Sept. 21 and that one day they will see the name “Matthew Dell’Amore” as a famous artist.
